Review: Anthony Logistics Astringent After Shave

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

It’s not easy to review an after shave, there are hundreds of them! But most of them won’t give you the results of the Anthony Logistics Astringent After Shave. Anthony Logistics  has designed this after shave to be low-alcohol, meaning that it will not heritate you skin when applying it just after shaving, and your skin won’t burn and turn red. Low-alcohol doesn’t mean low efficiency! Indeed, the Astringent After Shave is an effective yet mild, purifying lotion to be used after shaving on an oily or problem skin. The Anthony Logistics Astringent After Shave is a definitive solution to reduce the oil that causes blackheads and blocked pores, it also soothes razor burns, eliminates impurities, tightens pores and controls shine. I personnaly find it being the best aftershave (toner) as it cures my shaving rash & ingrown hairs and it smells great!

Hairdressers/hairstylists versus barbers

Monday, January 19th, 2009

A hairdresser is a universal term referring to someone whose occupation is to cut or style hair in order to change or maintain a person’s image. This is achieved using a combination of hair colouring, haircutting and hair texture techniques.

Some barbers prefer to see themselves as hairdressers or hairstylists. There is a common misbelief that barbers do not perform any service other than hair cutting and that cosmetologists perform all coloring and perms. In fact, barbers can cut hair, trim beards, color, perm, provide facials and shave. They are also licensed to work with artificial hair replacement products (toupées, etc).

Many working stylists are legally barbers. There is some professional rivalry between barbers and cosmetologists, both of which are licensed and regulated. At one time, both groups were allowed to cut hair, but only barbers were allowed to shave or trim beards: this required mastering the arcane technique of using a straight razor. Today, barbers and stylists may be found working side by side in establishments known as male salons. Male salons have afforded the barber the opportunity to remain traditional in all aspects of the term, yet also progressively contemporary as fashion and trends evolve. In male salons, hairstylists and barbers seek to accommodate the modern male hairstyle trends by employing traditional hair styling and straight razor shaves with modern practices such as texturizing techniques and color.

Obama haircut

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

It is believed to be the first in the world. Kwame Boyce-Deacon, 14, is a big fan of Obama and wanted his face clipped and shaved into the back of his head.

Obama is the first black President of America and I’m the first black model of Obama in Leicester – which is special for me. I don’t know anyone else who could draw that well, let alone with a blade on the head” he said. The haircut is amazing. All my friends are impressed as they know no one else has this. I’ve become a bit of a celebrity.

What you need to know about Facial Hair

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Facial hair is a secondary sex characteristic in human males. Many men start developing facial hair in the later years of puberty, approximately between 13-18 years old and most men don’t finish developing a fully adult beard until their early 20s or even later. This can vary, however, and males as young as 11 have been known to develop facial hair that require routine shaving. Further, many women also have some facial hair, especially after menopause, though typically much less than men.

Male pogonotrophy (the growing of facial hair; i.e, beardedness) is often culturally associated with wisdom and virility. Many men style their facial hair into beards, moustaches, goatees or sideburns. However, many others completely shave their facial hair. The term whiskers used when referring to human facial hair indicates the hair on the chin and cheeks. Abraham Lincoln was said to have grown a beard because an 11-year-old girl named Grace Bedell wrote to him, saying that he would look better with one.

Women typically have little hair on their faces, apart from eyebrows and the vellus hair that covers most of their bodies. However, in some cases women have noticeable facial hair growth. Excessive hairiness (especially facially) is known as hirsutism, and is usually an indication of abnormal hormonal variation. In contemporary western culture, almost all women shave, tweeze or otherwise depilate facial hair which does appear, as there is considerable social stigma associated with facial hair in women. Razors through history

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Razors have been a part of human invention since the dawn of time and while the basic social implications associated with human hair removal have changed very little, the tools used in the grooming technique have advanced greatly.

Prehistoric razor

Prehistoric razor

Since prehistoric times, men and women have been removing hair from their bodies. The history of razors and shaving dates all the way back to 30,000 B.C. Many of the earliest forms of hair removal were related to other body modification rituals, including piercing and body art. For many primitive tribes, hair removal could be seen as a form of tribal status and wealth. Nowadays, hair removal has become much more a part of vanity grooming, with various social stigmas being attached to different types of hair removal.

Shaving in space

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

The Apollo 10 crew became the first to shave in space in May 1969. After electric shavers with vacumn attachments didn’t work in testing, the astronauts used brushless shaving cream and standard safety razors on their flight and they worked well, even catching the loose whiskers.

Here is a video of the first South African in space having a shave in ero gravity:
