What is an aftershave?
Sunday, February 22nd, 2009An aftershave is a lotion, gel, balm, or liquid used by men after finished shaving their face. It usually contains an antiseptic agent such as alcohol to prevent infection from cuts as well as razor burns, a perfume to enhance scent, and a moisturiser to soften the skin. There are also some alcohol-based, fragrance-free astringent that can be used as aftershave. It has been proven that the alcohol from the aftershave closes pores in the skin and prevents irritation known as razor burns.
Many fashion designer houses lend their names to brands of aftershave, and thus aftershave is sometimes mistakenly referred to as Eau de Cologne. This is a great example of aftershave treatment from Lab Series for Men: Triple Benefit Post Shave Remedy 50ml, breakthrough post-shaving gel treatment formula that delivers three benefits in one.
